Data model
22 tables, 246 columns, 36 context layers. The canonical store is SQLite (download it, 1,904 sites); every table below is also a CSV on the downloads page, and /api/v1/sites/{id} returns the same joined for one record. Counts are from the database this site was built from on 2026-10-21.
Principles
- One row per place. A site is a mall, a box, an office park, a golf course… identified by a stable hash id (
m-…;n-…for model-extracted drafts). Slugs are for URLs and may change. - Before and after. The site row holds the before-facts (opened, acres, GLA, developer, anchors) and the after-facts (strategy, new use, status, year, developer) following Dunham-Jones and Williamson's taxonomy: redevelop (1,126 sites tagged), reinhabit (505), regreen (151).
- Everything carries provenance.
provenancenames the import, model run or research set behind each field; extracted values insite_detail,deal,sec_fact,challengeandpolicy_toolcarry the supporting quote and source URL. - Tiers, not truth claims.
verifiedsays who has looked: curated (from the authors' public map, not reviewed by them), draft (imported or model-extracted, unreviewed), contributed (submitted and reviewed). Nothing is promoted without a person. - Context is layered, not merged. Each public dataset is one JSON document per site in
context, with its own grain, vintage and licence; tract, county and site figures are never mixed into one number.
