Terms of use
Plain terms for a research site in its academic phase. Last changed 2026-10-21. The editor and operator is Hadi Irvani, Atlanta, Georgia, personally; no company has been incorporated for the Atlas yet.
What you may do
- Read, search, link to and cite any page. Citation format: /cite/.
- Download the data files and use the API and MCP server for research, teaching, journalism and personal study, under the licence page (research use only until terms with the authors are agreed).
- Quote excerpts with attribution to the record URL and to the underlying source named on the record.
What you may not do yet
- Resell, sublicense or commercially redistribute the database or substantial extracts. Commercial terms are undecided and will be published after the academic phase.
- Train, fine-tune or evaluate models on the authors' map data or the curated tier without written permission; the position on AI-training use is undecided with the authors.
- Scrape at a rate that degrades the site; use the downloads and the API instead.
- Present the Atlas as endorsed by Ellen Dunham-Jones, June Williamson, Georgia Tech or CUNY. It is not.
Accuracy and liability
Records are compiled from public sources by software agents and reviewed by a person only where the record says so. Every value carries a tier and a provenance chip; "Imported, unreviewed" means exactly that. Nothing here is investment, legal, planning or brokerage advice. Owner names come from county assessors and public filings; natural persons are withheld. The site is provided as is; to the extent the law allows, the editor accepts no liability for decisions made on it. Report errors through the form; corrections are answered within five working days.
Accounts, payments, cookies
There are no paid tiers in the academic phase. One Google AdSense unit sits at the foot of each page; it loads only where the privacy choices allow it (see the footer of any page). The only account is the optional, passwordless API key (a magic link by email); it holds your email, tier and usage counts and can be deleted from /api/v1/me. The only cookies are the consent choice (sbx-consent) and, on the gated mirror, an access token. Details: Privacy.
Changes and governing law
Terms change with the site; the date above moves and the changelog records it. Governing law and venue: undecided until counsel is engaged (the editor is in Georgia, USA). Contact: desk@retrofitatlas.org.
