Summary, model-written

Geelong Golf Club (146 acres, North Geelong, Australia) was redeveloped from a golf course. The site is now built, with housing and park planned as new uses. The developer is Links Group. After redevelopment, it features a 9-hole golf course with housing adjacent to fairways.

Why. The site follows the 'redevelop' and 'regreen' strategy. Peer comparisons show similar size (104–184 acres) and strategy with other sites like Villa Italia Mall and Apple Ridge Country Club.

Where it stands. Status is 'built' (development complete). No completion timeline or current housing/park occupancy details are provided. The narrative mentions the club was founded in 1892 and bought by Links Group in 2002, but this is not part of the current record's verified data.

For a planner

  • Land use transition from golf course to mixed housing/park confirmed.
  • No information on environmental remediation or community impact.

For a developer

  • Strategy aligns with peer sites using 'redevelop/regreen'.
  • No data on current occupancy, sales, or financials beyond the 2002 purchase.

What we do not know yet

  • Verified status is 'draft' (data unconfirmed).
  • No details on housing density, park features, or timeline for redevelopment completion.
  • Narrative mentions 18-hole course but after_notes state 9-hole; record uses after_notes as verified.

Background

The Geelong Golf Club is a defunct golf club founded in 1892 and was the oldest in the state of Victoria, Australia. It was located in the northern Geelong suburb of North Geelong and maintained an 18-hole course bounded by Ballarat Road and bisected by Thompson Road. The club ran into financial difficulties, $250,000 in 2001 and management of the club was taken over by PGA Links on 18 February 2002. Within 18 months, the sister company of PGA Links, Links Group had bought the Geelong Golf Club outright for $3.1 million.
