Summary, model-written

Hudson Generating Station (power plant, 1906–2017) was demolished after closing in 2017. Hilco Redevelopment Partners acquired the 241-acre site in 2019 and completed retrofitting for industrial/logistics use by 2019. The site is now an industrial park serving warehouse-distribution businesses. The record states it is demolished (smokestack and main structure removed by 2020).

Why. The site is 241 acres (larger than most peers), closed per category (not a mall), and located in a growing county (6.3% population growth 2018–23). Nearby clusters include industrial sites within 6.5km (e.g., St. John’s Terminal, A&P Warehouse).

Background

Hudson Generating Station was a power plant operated by PSEG Fossil LLC, a subsidiary of Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG). It was located in Jersey City in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. The site was in operation from 1906 to 2017, but as of 2011 only one unit was in operation at the facility – Unit 2, which ran primarily on coal to generate electricity and was also capable of burning natural gas as a secondary fuel. Unit 2 was also equipped with several back-end technology emission controls. The generating station was closed permanently by PSEG Power on June 1, 2017.
